- Simply put
- Its a collection of media files (usually audio
mp3) that are published to the web, and then
syndicated letting users subscribe to and
download them automatically.

- Audio
- MP3 (example podcasting single song downloads)
- Phonecasting - creating podcasts using a phone
- Skypecasting - different meanings "hosting a
skypecast session" or "creating podcasts by
recording a Skype conference call" - Webcasting - live interactive audio

- Autocasting (the automatic generation of podcasts
from text-only sources) - Blogcasting (the blogging podcast)

- Also called vlogging or Vodcasting

other MP3 players have listened to podcasts. - 22 million American adults own an MP3 or iPod
player, and more than 6 million of these owners
have listened to podcasts.

- MP3/iPod ownership tends to be higher among 18-28
year olds at 19 percent ownership, while 14
percent of 29-40 year olds have such a device.
Statistics on podcasting have differed recently,
however analysts at Forrester Research predicted
that 12.3 million US households would be using
digital music players to listen to podcasts by
2010.
