Lesson objectives
  • The students will learn the definition of
    adjectives and how to identify them. Further,
    they will learn how to recognize adjectives in a
    sentence. Finally, the students will learn how to
    take a picture with a digital camera, upload it
    onto the computer and print it out so that they
    can then describe the picture they took.

Introduction of learning activity
  • I will ask the class as a whole to give me
    different ways to describe what the weather is
    like outside. Most of the words they give me will
    be adjectives, and when they are done I will tell
    them and begin to define what an adjective is. I
    will then explain that they will be going outside
    after the lesson to take a photo with a digital
    camera that they will be uploading, printing and
    describing using adjectives.

Provide information
  • The information about adjectives will be provided
    in a presentation. First, students will be given
    the definition of an adjective and a few examples
    of why adjectives are used and why they are
    helpful in everyday life.

  • Students will be told that that adjectives can
    and should tell how something looks, tastes,
    feels or sounds and that they should answer
    questions such as How many? How big? What kind?
    Students will then be provided with an extensive
    list of adjectives that fall into the specific
    categories above.

Provide practice
  • Included in the presentation will be a series of
    sentences in which the students as a class will
    have to pick out the adjective(s) in each one.
    After the class as a whole has finished
    identifying the adjectives in the sentences that
    have been provided, we will go to the computer
    lab where they will play a game on what we have
    just done

  • By doing this, I will be able to walk around and
    make sure each student is able to understand and
    successfully find the adjectives in each sentence
    on their own. At this time, we will take class
    outside with digital cameras, and each student
    will take a photo of something they choose.

  • When we return to the computer lab, each student
    will upload and print their photo. We will bring
    the photo back to the classroom and each student
    will create a sentence that uses adjectives to
    describe it.

Knowledge of results
  • By having the students individually play the
    online game, I will be able to walk around and
    make sure each student is able to understand and
    successfully find the adjectives in each sentence
    on their own. Later on, when the students create
    sentences in groups and alone, I will be able to
    make sure that they can write sentences with
    adjectives as well as identify adjectives in
    sentences that they have not written.

Review activity
  • The activity and lesson will be reviewed by first
    having a student tell me what an adjective is. As
    a class we will then review some adjectives that
    we have become familiar with and create a couple
    sentences.

Methods of assessment
  • Students will be assessed by getting a grade for
    the picture that they took and the sentence they
    created to describe it. Additionally, the
    students will take a small quiz in which they
    identify adjectives in sentences.
