Goal 1 Expand Sustainable Wellness and Safety
Activities for Elders
  • Objectives
  • 1. Continue to expand partnership opportunities
    with Miami-Dade County departments, the Alliance
    for Aging and other elder services providers
  • 2. Continue to provide free comprehensive
    wellness and safety through a venue of special
    activities including health fairs, domino
    tournaments, and walking clubs
  • 3. Continue to promote free fitness activities
    and training for elders
  • 4. Continue to expand and develop wellness and
    safety programs at selected Miami-Dade Public
    Libraries

  • 5. Explore possibility of expanding the 311
    Telephone Reassurance Program countywide to 150
    elders. At present, 311 staff contact the 62
    program participants three times a week
  • 6. Hold Mother's Day and Father's Day events at
    30 senior centers countywide to celebrate healthy
    aging and recognize the contributions of elders
  • 7. Hold a Grandparent's Day Event in September to
    celebrate healthy aging and recognize the
    contributions of elders

  • 8. Explore the possibility of implementing a
    Lifeline Program at an elder residential facility
    that will encompass teaching elders how to use
    public transportation, to visit libraries and
    local grocery stores in order to learn how to
    purchase nutritious food
  • 9. Golden Passports Elders on Board - Conduct
    200 events countywide in which to process Golden
    Passports for elders
  • 10. Establish monthly lecture series on a variety
    of wellness and safety topics
  • 11. Establish an evidence-based walking and/or
    water exercise program

Goal 2 Provide Hurricane Preparedness and
Recovery Assistance to Low-Income Uninsured
Elders
  • Objectives
  • 1. Coordinate and implement a minimum of 30
    Hurricane Preparedness Fairs at senior centers
    countywide
  • 2. Create and distribute 1,500 hurricane
    preparedness kits to needy elders countywide
  • 3. Repair 12 homes of low-income uninsured elders
    countywide
  • Promote the Rx Response Program (Medicines to
    patients in time of emergency)

Opportunities and Workshops to Elders

  • 1. Provide a minimum of four job fairs and
    training
  • 2. Promote Medicare Fraud Prevention Program
  • 3. Provide a minimum of four Identity Theft
    Prevention and Safety Workshops
  • 4. Provide a minimum of four Credit Counseling
    and Budgeting Sessions
  • 5. Provide a minimum of 30 demonstrations of the
    new Optical Scan voting equipment at senior
    centers countywide

Goal 7 Assist the Centers for Medicare and
Medicaid Services with the Promotion of the New
Preventive Health Benefits
  • Objective
  • 1. Through the SHINE Program, educate Miami-Dade
    elders and caregivers on the new Preventative
    Health Benefits
  • 2. Assist the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
    Services with their promotional campaign on
    health preventive benefits and medical fraud
    prevention
  • 3. Work closely with the Miami-Dade Public
    Library System to distribute the promotional
    information
