Title: Task 3 PowerPoint (P3, M2, D1)
1Task 3
2These are all the photos I took and I chose 10 of
them to show on this PowerPoint, all to present
as part of my Task 3 Portfolio.
3My idea behind this shot was to have this
particular pose stationed in a few of my shots,
this one being from a low angle On-one-knee
shot and I particularly liked this shot because I
wanted to show that whilst the story focussed on
the struggle of the male character, his wife
plays an important role in helping him through
the struggle, showing her character to be a
strong presence. She has a story too, it isnt
mainly about the fact that she is able to help
him, she has moments of her own in the plot
itself and she develops as a character. So it
signifies that even though the story centrals on
the man, his wife also plays more than a
significant part with her own plot within the
book, having the angle of this photo looking up
to her shows the powerlessness of the
husband. We tried to utilise a natural lighting
with no studio lights but we found it very
difficult to turn off one light without having to
turn off ones we needed on, so we positioned two
to one side to try and make the lighting seem
natural. I decided against using this for my
final piece as I would ideally crop most of the
photo, and I have been encouraged to get all my
body shots within the photo and this one, Im not
particularly happy with my body shape and would
want to crop it out.
4I prefer this photo to that of the previous
slide, simply because I would use this whole shot
within the book cover. I feel this photo shows
more respect and required individual strength for
the male character, as well as a sense of both
love and care between the two. This would be my
choice if I had to choose out of all the current
photos that I have in my inventory, as I love
having the male character sitting helplessly but
still showing the strength to feel like he owes
some affection to his loving partner. Though I
wish I had used lighting on this angle as I had
used it on another take but different angle. I
like this camera angle (Low angle) to the others
we took because seeing the male leads face sums
it up more as what he is to the female, holding
her hand signifying that he feels for her. Also
with being a lower angle, seeing the female
character further up shows a sense of strong
individual willing, but looking down as a sense
of groundedness and with it comes love and caring
for this vulnerable man, who does appreciate her
and feels he doesnt deserve her.
5This photo was very much one of my last resorts,
but I found the photo appealing but I would take
this photo and remove all visual aspects and make
it into a silhouette only. I liked the angle, a
close up and slightly to the side. It brought a
sense of power to the character, and with my
chosen editing technique, a significance to the
character, especially to the male lead role as
well. I think I could experiment with this photo
with Photoshop editing. Using some techniques
that I feel would be appropriate to the theme of
the photo, perhaps making the background black
and the outline of my model Charlotte a golden
colour, and along with a few other effects that I
have yet to decide.
Again I wanted to convey a sense of thought and
expression, but compassion from the female. She
looks to be consoling him, and the chosen angle
here takes the male character completely out of
the picture so it focuses entirely on the female,
which I think is more significant. The story is
mainly about the female trying to help the male,
but also how they both get stronger together and
individually, and overcome the pressure of having
lost something personally.
6This is another take on the shot of me and
Charlotte with me on my knees, and nothing really
was different other than the angle itself. I did
prefer this angle to the other one, as the body
seems a lot better defined as well as the
face. The angle is from a shot where our
photographer, Stephen, would stand on a chair
behind me to my right and in front of Charlotte
to her left. Again I prefer this angle as it
shows us off our faces and bodies in a better
light than the previous shot, and I feel I would
not be taking too much from this photo if I would
choose to crop out a few things and use the quick
selection tool in Photoshop.
We have here a close up of Charlotte, with a blur
effect on the one side along with it darkening on
the other side, which allows for the main source
of the light to shine off her eyes. This effect
is very captivating, but also attempts to show
vulnerability in her characters role, and her
long eyelashes show femininity. The close up
shot teamed with the blurred effect was what I
was hoping for this photo, and the light shining
into her eyes provide a focus point for the
camera and the viewer as well, therefore creating
depth to the photo.
7- Here we have a photo of mine that I had taken of
me and my model Rebekah, my partner in all this
because we have been helping each other in all
our respective photo shoots. In this photo, my
character is sat on the bed having been feeling
down for a period of time, and her character has
her finger on my chin as if to say, Chin up,
cheer up. - The photo itself was taken in a studio where I
tried to make the surroundings look like a
bedroom, and we originally tried to shut off the
lights and utilise the lamp in the room, but the
photos came up without us being brilliantly
defined so we turned the light on. I will then
take to Photoshop to edit the shots to try and
convey them within an environment that suits the
theme of the book cover. - The camera angle is shot from above to the left
of the shot, therefore being a high angle shot.
This I feel did work when showing the
vulnerabilities of my character but I would go
back to try and show Rebekahs face, trying to
show her emotion but nonetheless, her work with
trying to hold my chin really did work in showing
her characters concern. - Being a medium shot, it is the perfect distance
to show me and Rebekah within the frame, not
going too close to make me or Rebekah the
absolute concentration of the photo rather than
us both, and not too far that it signify
something as more of a relevant element of the
photograph. - Overall this photo I am very satisfied with,
despite the fact that for cutting out and pasting
in Photoshop, we accidentally did not get all of
her head in the photo, but certainly a great
starting point that I was very pleased with.
8- For my second shot in my second take for these
photos, I had me and Rebekah pose as out
characters embraced. I do really like this photo,
I feel this would not have worked if me and
Rebekah did not get on so well. - The description of this photo will be plain and
simple, showing the bond our characters have. We
had other photos where I was knelt down to be
level with Rebekah, which I didnt feel worked as
well, and this photo was my favourite out of all
the ones we took. - I feel this photo would work in the poster in
advertising a romance film, and it works because
both of the plain background and the straight-on
angle and medium shot manage to make me and
Rebekah an ensemble, and nothing detracts from me
and Rebekah in this shot and it is perfectly
framed and aligned to work.
9- In this particular photo, I wanted to show the
character gripping onto the one thing he has that
keeps him going, who still he believes deserves
better than him. - For this photo I had brought in pillows and bed
sheets for the shoot, and I feel it made the end
result a lot more authentic, and the high angle
shot along with the direction I am looking in
(Into the camera), trying to make the character
out to be insecure, being fully aware that she
loves him but feeling she doesnt deserve to go
through this. - My editing ideas for this shot range from
cropping out the stills of me and Rebekah and
pasting it on a plain black background, or
removing the colour and following the Sin City
idea of showing only one colour, in my eyes. - Back to the high angle and the medium-distance
shot, the way that the photo both shows the
character trying to sleep but holding onto the
one thing he still has, whilst she is sleeping
comfortably, again teamed with the looking into
the camera trying to providing a focal point, and
the main focus of the audience looking at the
photo.
10- Another example of a close up shot where our
characters are embracing. I did not think that at
the time this shot would be any different but
seeing Rebekah looking down is a good thing
because I like her showing self-doubt, it helps
define her character in an interesting way. - The medium shot works a lot better than any other
distance, and the framing works really well
however I feel when trying to put this onto a
book cover, the fact that we dont see our whole
bodies and that it is a landscape photo may make
it slightly difficult. - Our positions work very well though, allowing us
to be an ensemble, and Im very glad Rebekahs
moved her hair onto her other shoulder so we
could see her eyes, otherwise this photo may not
have worked. - Lighting in all of these photos were covered by
the lights in the room we used, referring to the
shots with Rebekah and myself as appose to the
photos we took with Charlotte when we used soft
box lighting and Omni lighting.
