Title: 3 Tips For Reviewing An Assisted Living Agreement

1
3 Major Tips For Reviewing An Assisted Living
Agreement
2
  • Before you step into your new assisted living
center, it is highly important for you to read
carefully through the resident agreement. If you
are planning to move to a senior home, don't be
afraid to ask for a large-print copy.
  • It can be an exciting and sometimes stressful
time when you are preparing to move into an
assisted living facility. It is a good idea that
before you make any final agreements to check on
the most essential things you will need. It is
very important that you research what the
resident agreement tells you about the facility
and then sign all of the contracts carefully.
Check out these tips that will help you
    understand your resident agreement.

3
Check For The Funds Being Paid
  • There can be many documents that are included in
a Resident Agreement. But there is one document
which has to be signed by "Authorized
    Representative", "Agent for Resident",
"Responsible Party", or simply saying a person
who will take responsibility paying for your
care. Here, if none of your friend or family
member is paying from their own funds for your
care, make sure that the document they sign must
state "only to the extent of the residents
    personal funds and/or resources".

4
Ask For The Services You Will Receive
  • Your contract must have a statement of the level
of care you require, i.e. the services you need
should be included. For the rate that is being
charged, you should not only see your service
packages, and fees for service rates, but also it
should show all other non-service related charges
clearly. Also, you need to confirm whether the
facility will provide transportation, or will
they help you arrange for an outside
    transportation service when required.

5
Confirm Medical Or Health Care Assistance
  • It needs to be clearly stated in the contract how
    often health care professionals, doctors,
therapists, nurses, etc. will be coming to the
facility. Plus, the contract should specify what
kinds of health services will be provided to you
by staff. Will they be helping you with
medications? Or will they be calling in your
prescriptions to the pharmacy? Are they willing
to arrange prescription delivery for you?

6
  • These were just the basics of what a resident
agreement generally consists of. Be careful with
these three essentials, and don't be afraid to
ask about any questions or concern that you have
    before signing.
