Surgeries for Shoulder Dislocation
Shoulder dislocation occurs when the ball of the
shoulder joint is pulled or knocked out of its
socket. In some cases, the shoulder bone can be
placed back to its original place with the help
of the conservative method. Trauma to the joint
leads to severe pain, instability, and recurring
dislocation in such cases shoulder surgeries are
recommended to stabilize the area and minimize
the risk of repetition of dislocations in the
future.
There are several different surgeries option for
repairing shoulder dislocation, depending on the
severity and location of the injury within the
shoulder. Bankart Repair surgery This kind of
shoulder surgery is needed if the dislocated
shoulder moves towards the front of the body. The
ring of cartilage surrounding the socket may have
been torn out of the socket.
It repairs the tear in cartilage and reattaches
it to the socket. Depending on the severity of
this surgery can also be performed
arthroscopically or as an open procedure. Another
shoulder dislocation surgery is Capsular shift
surgery, this surgery is used when the shoulder
has been dislocated multiple times. The ligaments
holding the shoulder in place become
hyperextended and lose their ability to hold the
joint in place. This surgery tightens the
ligaments so they can once again hold the
shoulder firmly in place.
3
Latarjet surgery with bone grafting is surgery
indicated when the bone on the edge of the
shoulder The socket has been damaged. Bone from
the shoulder blade is used as a graft to attach
the tendon to the front edge of the shoulder
socket, alternatively, a bone from a bone bank or
the patient's pelvis can be used to stabilize the
shoulder.
4
Another surgery known as total shoulder
replacement surgery, is performed when multiple
shoulder dislocations or instability due to
repeated rotator cuff tear. This procedure both
the ball and the socket of the shoulder with an
artificial part and then attached humerus or
upper arm bone, with a stem. Total shoulder
replacement is an extreme surgery for shoulder
dislocation.
These are some surgeries used to treat shoulder
dislocation conditions but are only needed
according to the patient's condition. One needs
to consult a professional for the treatment
regime needed with the individual.
