    Cypriots the Turkish Cypriots to the north and
    Greek Cypriots to the southern portion of the
    island.
  • Turkey still maintains a large military presence
    on the island.
  • Efforts to resolve the conflict with the help of
    the United Nations have been underway for many
    years.
