  • Ideas for you to keep in mind when creating your
    PowerPoint Slide show.

General Tips
  • Introduce one idea per slide.
  • Use small words and sentences.
  • Use the same tense throughout the slide.
  • Use only 6-8 words per point you present.
  • Use strong headings to grab attention and
    summarize slide.
  • Dont use all capitals, theyre hard to read.
  • Establish a format and use it.
  • Keep it simple!!!!!!!

Planning the Content
  • State your objectives and areas you want to
    cover.
  • Summarize the content point by point.
  • Write each point on a separate card.
  • Too many bullets?? If so it may be too detailed!
  • Make speaker notes!
  • Transfer this info onto PowerPoint Slide.

Line Charts
  • Best for showing trends.
  • Best for showing large numbers aof data points
  • Limit of 4 lines per chart.
  • Color is the best way to distinguish between
    lines.

Bar Charts
  • Best for showing differences in data set in
    moment in time.
  • Best for show in differences in related data.
  • Keep the colors well defined between bars.
  • Make positive s and negative s different
    colors.
  • Horizontal bars if you have lots of data.

Pie Charts
  • Limit 6 slices.
  • Put labels on outside of slide.
  • Display next to each slice.

Choosing Colors
Dont use too many colors----3 is best. 1 color
for background 1 for title and highlighting 1
for the text
Text and background should be contrasting colors.
Cool colors are best for backgrounds. Warm
colors best for highlights.
Be Consistent

Choosing the Typeface
  • San Serifs (Helvetica, Arial) fonts best.
  • Easy to read when viewed from distance.
  • Avoid ornate fonts - Gothic, Old English.
  • Check font on media used - on a TV screen,
    projector, pc screen.

  • Be sure they enhance your presentation.
  • Too many graphics can overwhelm the message.
