Title: Preparing your children for a blessed marriage'

1
The Biblical Blessing of Marriage Part 3
  • Preparing your children for a blessed marriage.

2
Introduction
  • Loving Christian parents undoubtedly want their
    children to go to heaven.
  • It is consistent, then, that Christian parents
would want their children to marry a faithful
Christian someone that will influence their
lives in the ways of faithfully serving God.
  • What are we doing to prepare our children for a
    blessed marriage?
  • How much time are we spending preparing our
children for a blessed marriage and family life?

3
Introduction
  • Continuing the theme of a blessed marriage we
need to look at preparing our children for it.
  • To get back to accepting, living, and teaching
    God-given roles to our children.
  • To instill a principle of faithful yoking
finding someone of like precious faith.
  • To ensure a strong parent-child relationship
where children will employ their parents wisdom
    when they become teens.

4
Preparing Them To Be Equally Yoked
  • As parents (who have authority over our children)
we should not shy away from teaching the
principle of faithful yoking. Cp. Deut. 2210 2
    Cor. 614-17
  • We rightly teach Christians not to love the world
or the things in it. 1 Jn. 215
  • We authoritatively and faithfully teach against
fellowship with brethren walking in darkness. 1
    Cor. 59-11
  • In like manner we must instill within our
children a desire to find someone of like mind
    of like precious faith.

5
Preparing Them To Be Equally Yoked
  • Applying the principle Do not be unequally yoked
    with unbelievers. 2 Cor. 614
  • This passage does not explicitly nor contextually
forbid marriage to an unbeliever, therefore a
Christian has no authority to bind this on
    another Christian.
  • The principle behind this passage, however, can
be appropriately and wisely applied to ones
marriage as easily as any other area in our
    lives.
  • This God inspired warning should be heeded by
parents in preparing their children for a blessed
    marriage.

6
Preparing Them For Their God-Given Roles
  • Before parents can ideally and effectively train
their children for their God-given roles
  • Parents must first believe in, accept, and strive
to practice Gods revealed word on this subject
matter (as they would on any other area of
    study). Cp. 2 Tim. 316
  • We may not live in the perfect environment or
circumstance but will strive nonetheless to
instill these God-given roles to our children.

7
Preparing Them For Their God-Given Roles
  • Fathers teaching their sons
  • To take the lead in making decisions like Joshua.
    Josh. 2415
  • To learn courage and sacrifice, provide for,
protect against like David. 1 Sam. 1731-37
  • To take godly wives who will quietly follow their
    (godly) lead.

8
Preparing Them For Their God-Given Roles
  • Mothers teaching their daughters
  • To ingrain them to submit to their husbands
    headship. Cp. 1 Pet. 36 Eph. 522
  • This does not mean she is to be afraid of him.
  • Nor obeying her husband even if it means sinning
    against God. Cp. Acts 528-29
  • Teach them to be industrious.
  • Give our daughters to godly men who will lead
their families like Joshua. Josh. 2415

9
Teenage Years Wisdom Employed
  • The transition from child to adult are the
    teenage years.
  • If they are prepared to learn to accept and love
    their God-given roles.
  • If they have learned to seek out someone of like
    precious faith.
  • If they have learned to seek after the wisdom of
    their godly parents. Prov. 41-9
  • Then a strong parent-child relationship coupled
with diligent training will prepare their
children to seek a blessed marriage.

10
Teenage Years Wisdom Employed
  • When not trained up in the way they should go,
they will look to the world for guidance and
    acceptance.
  • Forsaking Gods wisdom, your child will turn to
the wisdom of the world. Prov. 17
  • Their decisions may bring fleeting happiness, but
not a blessed marriage leading to eternal life.

11
Conclusion
  • If we want our children to have blessed marriages
we must take the time and energy to prepare them
    for such a blessed relationship.
  • God has given us His wisdom so they may find
someone like-minded focused on having a blessed
    marriage.
