Sharing Files

• Files can be copied manual via external media
  (e.g. memory stick) This is known as Sneaker
  Net
• A server can allow multiple machines to access a
  common file over the LAN.

Sharing files on the LAN

• Best method directly accessing file on server.
  Requires good LAN connection. Dont leave files
  open too long.
• Copy to desktop and back to server when done.
  Works with lower quality connection. Users must
  be careful not to overwrite each other.

• Backup keeps a separate copy of important data to
  guard against
• Equipment failure
• Accidental deletion
• Site catastrophe (e.g. fire)
• Backup media
• Tape
• CDs
• RAID

• Weekly full backup (manual process)
• Rotate full backup tapes off-site
• Files on local hard drives are not backed up

E-Mail

• Email is provided through our web server
• Email addresses are uname_at_Christislife.org
• This can be connected to a single user on a
  single machine.
• Access to email is via Microsoft Outlook or
  Microsoft Outlook Express.
• Each email account must be configured to work
  correctly.
• Some email address are links. The email is
  automatically forwarded to another address (e.g.
  verger2_at_Christislife.org).
• Email lists end with -l (e.g.
  liturgy-l_at_Christislife.org)
