1
WELCOME! Hi out there!
  • Im Ben!
  • Todays Talk Critical Reflective Teaching and
    the Surveys Role

2
Critical Reflective Teaching?
  • This is not tied to any particular teaching
    method, per se.
  • It is, though, designed to help teachers learn
about their own teaching styles and methods by
    reviewing classroom observations, videotaping, or
any means that records the teaching environment.
  • Surveys are a part of this review and provide
teachers input from students to reflect upon.
This can be done electronically or by hand.

3
Surveys help
  • They provide immediate electronic feedback that
    is archived, when done online.
  • They can define your learning environment more
    precisely, if needed.
  • They can provide motivation for the learner,
    through the use of technology.
  • They can be used to develop research in your area
    of expertise.

4
The dilemma of language
  • The Humanities and language learning
  • A BIG HOLE!
  • Survey ROPE

5
My findings
  • Why didnt I choose PHYSICS!

6
Taking it too far
  • TEFL teachers work in the soft sciences
  • Students who learn English may need TOEFL.
  • Noam Chomsky and Stephen Crashen opened up a can
    worms.
  • There are no answers in this field only creative
theories and jargon that are open to endless
    discussion.
  • Is there a doctor in the house? How does that
    brain really work???
  • Language learning is just that!

In sum
  • Critical reflective teaching and surveys give us
crucial feedback from students to reflect upon
  • Win win situation for both teacher and learner.
This can provide motivation for all parties
    concerned
  • Last but not least English is big business, but
lets remember were not educated in the hard
sciences and have a little fun darn it!
