Hotel Overview
  • Most of the guests are staying during the week is
    business. But, on weekends we have weddings and
    functions.
  • The location is 75 Forks Market Road
  • 116 modern guest rooms and suites
  • Has the best view of Winnipeg
  • Canada Select Rating is 4 ½ stars

Management Structure
  • I feel that this is a good picture of the
    management structure for the reason that the
    hotel is a privately owned hotel where the Owners
    and the General Manager rely on the input of all
    department managers and supervisors. There is no
    Manager which is higher than the other because
    all the feedback is important.

Room Attendant Responsibilities
  • Cleaning rooms occupied and check-outs.
  • Stocking Room Attendant Cart.
  • Attending Health and Safety meetings. (I was the
    representative for Housekeeping)
  • Assist other Room Attendants when they needed
    assistance with their rooms.

Critical Moments
  • One of the Critical Moments which I encountered
    was when we had 3 Room Attendants call in sick on
    a day that we were sold out. It was a very hectic
    day there was 4 Room Attendants and we each had a
    floor of rooms to do. I had done 29 Rooms in an
    8hr shift with no breaks just to get the rooms
    done for the guests arriving.

Assessment of Professional and Personal Gains
  • I have gained the experience of a Room Attendant,
    Housekeeping Supervisor, House Attendant and
    Laundry Attendant. The Housekeeping Manager (Barb
    Walker) let me experience all aspects of the
    Housekeeping Department which was a life learning
    experience because now I know both front and back
    of the house and understand the different parts
    of stress that comes with both departments.

Other Points of Interest
  • My last week I had the opportunity to sit down
    with the General Manager Denis Smith and go over
    the Architectural Plans of the Inn at the Forks.
    He showed me step by step of things that went
    wrong, things that the hotel was suppose to have
    that got scrapped and things not to do when you
    are building a hotel.

Did You Know???Points of Interests about the
Hotel
  • Inn at the Forks was suppose to have balconys
    for all their suites.
  • The hotel was suppose to have a basement were the
    Spa was going to be located with Executive Spa
    Suites on the main level with a private elevator
    for guests to access.
  • There was suppose to be a pool, but Denis said
    they are still in the process of getting one put
    in by the spa and the front desk area.

Conclusion
  • The Inn at the Forks is a great hotel for any
    co-op student because they take you in like one
    of their own and will teach you everything that
    you want to know.Overall I enjoyed my time
    working there and have took on a Full Time
    Position as a Front Desk Agent.
