6EC Directive on WEEE
- The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment
Directive (WEEE Directive) - Minimise the impact of electrical and electronic
goods on the environment. - By increasing re-use and recycling and reducing
the amount of WEEE going to landfill. - Producers and distributors responsibility for
waste disposal.
7Implementation of WEEE
- The UK Regulations implementing the WEEE
Directive were laid before Parliament on 12
December 2006 and entered into force on 2 January
2007.

- Comtek has always operated an environmental
policy. - Directive 2202/95/EC covers hazardous substances
in electrical and electronic equipment. - Directive 2002/96/EC covers landfill and
incineration of above.

- Comtek produces destruction certificates by
serial number. - Disposal partners produce certificates by weight.
- Hazardous chemicals such as arsenic, mercury,
cadmium and lead are quantified and certified.

- Electronic products contain deadly toxins such as
mercury, barium, lead, chromium, cadmium,
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and dioxins. - E-waste dumped in landfills risks the leaching of
heavy metals into the ground water and soil.
Burning E-waste produces lethal fumes that
contaminate the air. - Shipping of deadly products overseas.
