Title: Edible Cells in Science

1
Edible Cells in Science
1. A 5th grade student is spreading the
"cytoplasm" on her edible cell.  The cytoplasm is
a jelly like substance that acts as the cell's
environment.
2. Now, the cell has its cell membrane
(Twizzler).  The cell membrane is the outer
structure that allows materials to pass in and
out of the cell.
3. The cell finally has its nucleus (Oreo)!   The
nucleus is the brain of the cell.  Inside the
nucleus are chromosomes.  Chromosomes carry DNA,
which determines the characteristic of a living
organism.
4. Finally, we know what kind of cell we made!
The "chloroplast" in the cell lets us know that
this is a plant cell.  Only plant cells have a
chloroplast.  The chloroplasts make the plant
green, and they work with the sun to make food
for the plant.
