PSI PROGRAMME
  • Practice School-I (BITS C221) is a course which
    is offered during Summer Term every year
  • BITS C221 is like a multi-section course, each
    station is like a section and the I/C of the
    course is Dean, PS Division

  • A tool to bridge the gap between theory and
    practice
  • Involves the student in the ongoing
    developmental activities of a professional
    organization during the degree programme, under
    the direct guidance of BITS faculty and experts
    from the industry

  • To enable the student to apply and practice
    his/her profession while still a student
  • To expose the student to and involve him/her in
    the actual functioning of professional
    organizations
  • To develop ones professional personality

PSI PROGRAMME
  • 100 Attendance is expected
  • Continuous internal evaluation is conducted
    by the PS faculty at the work place
  • Personality Traits evaluated through various
    components of evaluation
  • Letter grade is awarded on the basis of
    overall performance

PSI PROGRAMME
  • Each student has to register on the first day of
    the summer term just as he/she registers for an
    on-campus course in a semester
  • But, it is difficult to register at different
    locations, therefore registration is done in this
    semester itself on 20.04.08, Sunday

  • All the students should join the PS-I programme
    on the first day i.e. 22nd May,2008
  • Course Handout
  • Will be given to the students within 3 days of
  • start of PS-I programme
  • Orientation Programme
  • Normally for two four weeks so as to know your
  • organization

  • Each student will be given a booklet called
    CHECKLIST
  • The checklist is like a textbook for PS-I
    course.
  • This checklist contains broad areas in which
    PS-I assignments are possible

  • Organizational structure

PSI PROGRAMME
  • The students are urged to go through the
    checklist carefully and decide about the
    assignments possible in the organization in
    consultation with PS-I faculty and with help
    from professional experts from the
    organization.
  • The checklist is not exhaustive and the
    students should suggest new areas and/or
    sub-classification in existing areas and submit
    the same to PS faculty.

  • Faculty-Student Interaction
  • Regular Interaction is a must
  • Objective is to help in continuous
    monitoring, guiding the student in their
    assignments and giving regular feedback about
    his performance to the student

EVALUATION SCHEME
Continuous evaluation of the Students by the PS
I faculty through following components
  • Quiz 10 (twice)
  • Seminar and viva 25 (twice)
  • Group Discussion 10 (twice)
  • Project Report 30 (twice)
  • Daily Observation 15 (continuous)
  • Diary 10 (continuous)

  • Diary
  • Complete documentation of the PS-1 programme
  • To be checked and signed by PS faculty regularly
  • All students should bring their PS-I diary to the
    campus and submit to PSD on request.

  • Focus is on many latent attributes which might
    not all surface in the normal class-
  • room situations such as
  • Intellectual ability
  • Professional judgment
  • Decision making ability
  • Interdisciplinary approach
  • Skills for data handling
  • Ability in written and oral presentation
  • Sense of responsibility

EVALUATION SCHEME
  • Personality Traits of students will be judged on
    the scale of Good/Fair/Poor and will be enlisted
    in the PS transcript
  • It is not only the marks obtained in the
    evaluation schedule but other attributes such as
    punctuality, taking initiative in doing work,
    discipline etc., that are also judged by the
    faculty and will be reflected in the PS
    transcripts

GRADING for PS-1
  • At the end of the course, the students will be
    awarded letter grades based on their performance.
  • Each PS I station may contain students from both
    Goa and Pilani campuses.
  • All students (Goa Pilani) will be graded
    together by the PS-I faculty in every station.

PSI PROGRAMME
  • Feedback
  • Written as well as oral feedback will be
    collected from the students
  • Constructive feedback received from the students,
    helps the division in making the desired changes
    in future
  • Student co-instructor (SI)
  • For some stations, SI is provided to assist the
    faculty in routine matters.
  • SI should not directly evaluate the students.

  • Students are supposed to attend the programme
    on ALL working days.
  • If any student has any reason to be absent
    for a long period, he should apply to the Dean,
    PS Division, through the PS faculty.
  • Long absence from PS-I usually results in
    withdrawal from the programme

  • Students must adhere strictly to the
    timings mentioned in the handout.
  • Students should come properly
    dressed as per the organization requirements.

  • The Registration done on 20thApril, 08 is
    provisional
  • If for some reason, a student is not able to
    join the PS-I organization allotted to him/her,
    he/she will be considered as not registered
  • The student has to inform the Dean, PS Division
    at the earliest about his/her inability to
    attend the Programme (giving reasons)

  • If any student wishes to withdraw from PS-I
    (after joining) he should apply to the Dean, PS
    Division, indicating the reasons for withdrawing
    from the course
  • This should be forwarded by the concerned PS
    faculty
  • Students should read the academic regulations
    carefully for knowing the consequences (like has
    to seek permission from the Dean PSD to do CDCs)

  • All students should be present on the closing
    day (15th July 2008).
  • Students should approach the organization
    people only with the permission of PS-I faculty.
  • Any kind of problem related to PS-I should be
    reported immediately to the PS-I faculty.

  • Students should follow discipline prescribed
    by the organization
  • For eg
  • No use of mobile phones within the organization.
  • No browsing of internet within organization
  • Always carry ID cards and produce on demand.
  • Meeting time and schedule to be strictly adhered
    to.
  • Attendance maintenance as per their norms.

  • The student must maintain proper conduct during
    their stay at PS-I station
  • The student should not demand any extra
    facilities like local conveyance, stationery,
    canteen facilities etc.. if these are not
    voluntarily offered by
  • PS-I station.
  • In any case, students should route
  • their request through the PS-I faculty only.

  • The students should remember that they are the
    ambassadors of the institute and should conduct
    themselves worthy of the students of BITS
  • The conduct of the students should ensure that
    the host organization looks forward to the
    participation of BITS students in future

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
  • PSD is organising TECHNICAL ORIENTATION in the
    next week
  • Students will be divided in categories such as
    Process Industries, Research Organizations, etc.
  • Purpose is to have clarity about what to what
    all to look for in the organization in a
    duration of 2 months and gain maximum from the
    programme
  • Attendance in this orientation is compulsory
  • Notice will be put up on various notice boards
    and you all have to attend based on your
    category
