PLT TECHNOLOGY AND STANDARDS
2
TECHNICAL OVERVIEW
3
POWERLINE COMMITTEE (PLT) DESCRIPTION
  • ETSI TC PLT (excerpt from ToR)
  • ... develop high quality standards and
    specifications to provide telecommunications
services via the existing public and private
    mains power networks
  • ... The standards will be developed in
    sufficient detail to allow interoperability
    between equipment from different manufacturers
and co-existence of multiple powerline systems
    within the same environment
  • ETSI TC PLT is publishing and developing the
necessary standards to make sure that PLT
successfully coexists with other technologies and
    services

5
SOME STANDARDS
  • ETSI Technical Specification (TS) 101 896
    Reference Network Architecture Model
  • The present document specifies the network
    architecture model for PLC (powerline
communication) systems. The document defines and
specifies all PLC external interfaces. PLC
internal interfaces are defined within the
document but (if the interfaces are new
standards) specified in other documents to which
    references are given.

6
SOME STANDARDS
  • ETSI Technical Specification (TS) 101 867
Coexistence of Access and In-House Powerline
    Systems
  • When using the same frequencies, inhouse PLC is
visible in the access and might potentially
interfere with access PLC. The same situation
appears also vice versa as powerlines are a
shared medium. Therefore it is essential to
specify the co-existence between access and
inhouse to protect each service from interference
    by the other

7
SOME STANDARDS
  • ETSI Technical Report (TR) 102 049 Quality of
Service (QoS) requirements for in-house systems
  • The present document contains a definition of
Quality of Service (QoS) parameters and QoS
    requirements for an in-house PowerLine
Communications (PLC) network system needed for
applications in the home environment (HE). Such a
system is here called a PLC home network
(PLC-HN). Input to the present document came from
    company
  • contributions and from ETSI,
  • IEEE, IETF, and ITU-T standards
  • documents. The QoS
  • requirements and definitions are
  • derived from well-known and
  • industry wide accepted standards.

8
SOME STANDARDS
  • ETSI Technical Report (TR) 102 175 PLT Channel
    characterization and measurement methods
  • The present document applies to measurements of
the symmetry behaviour and the attenuation in Low
    Voltage Distribution Networks (LVDN) within
premises. It also covers measurements for
magnetic near fields within and in close vicinity
of premises resulting from feeding HF-signals
into LVDN. The measurements are intended for the
measurement campaign of the ETSI Specialist Task
Force (STF) 222, which investigates HF
characteristics of LVDN relevant for the
operation of PLT-systems as well as the hidden
    node aspect

9
SOME STANDARDS
  • ETSI TR 102 258 PLT LCL Review Statistical
    Analysis
  • EU PLT LCL Review Statistical Analysis taking
into account such matters as Earthing Variations,
    Country Variations, Operator differences, phasing
    and distribution topologies, domestic, industrial
and housing types along with local network
    loading
  • 80 percentile value 30.7 dB
  • Basically independent of frequency, geographical
    area and electrical installation type

10
SOME STANDARDS
  • ETSI TR 102 259 PLT EMI Review Statistical
    Analysis
  • EU PLT EMI Review Statistical Analysis taking
into account such matters as Earthing Variations,
    Country Variations, Operator differences, phasing
    and distribution topologies, domestic, industrial
and housing types along with local network
    loading
  • 80 percentile value of the coupling factor
    63.16 dB(µV/m)-dBm
  • Basically independent of frequency, geographical
    area and electrical installation type

11
SOME STANDARDS
  • ETSI TR 102 324 Radiated emissions'
characteristics and measurement method of state
of the art powerline communication networks
  • The present document also specifies the
measurement method used to characterize the
radiated emissions, so that future measurements
can be performed using the same method.
  • The present document reports the radiated
    emissions' characteristics of powerline
communication networks in the frequency range
    1,605 MHz to 30 MHz.
  • The radiated emissions' characteristics presented
in the present document cover both access and
    in-home powerline communication networks.
  • 80 of the measurements are below 4 dB(µA/m)
    quasi-peak, while 100 are below 14 dB(µA/m)
    quasi-peak)

12
SOME STANDARDS
  • ETSI TR 102 269 Hidden Node review and
    statistical analysis
  • The present document investigates the
distribution of the Transverse Transfer Loss with
respect to the carrier-frequency, to the relative
location of the sockets, to the phase conditions
between the sockets and to the national
    LVDN-particularities.

Cumulative probability for the largest continuous
window with TTL below k same flat/house
