A day in the life of a CCMS 6th Grader
  • 730 Students allowed in building- Report to Gym
    until 740
  • 740 Breakfast
  • 745 Report to 1st period (1st period is the
    homeroom)
  • 755 Tardy Bell
  • 800 Academic Day Starts
  • Each class period is 80 minutes
  • Connections are on an A or B day
  • 310 Academic Day ends Buses released
  • 315 Car Riders released
  • 330 All students should be picked up by this
    time

Parent Drop-off / Pick-up
  • Students are not allowed in building until 730
  • Car drop-off area in front of building
  • Cars single file along sidewalk
  • Be aware of all traffic, cars, and buses
  • Student pick-up along same area
  • Students will be under cafeteria canopy

Lunch Information
  • Lunch prices will be 1.65 for full price and
    .80 for reduced price
  • All parents are requested to complete a free and
    reduced lunch form or sign off that the do not
    want to participate in the program.
  • Charges- Gilmer Co policy states that middle
    school students will be allowed only 3 charges.
    Parents need to take care of these charges as
    soon as possible.  It isn't your child's
    responsibility to answer why these charges
    haven't been paid, nor should they have to go
    without meals because you didn't pay for their
    meals in a timely manner
  • Parents are encouraged to prepay their child's
    meals for the week, month or even yearly.  When
    writing a check to pay for student meals, be sure
    to include your child's name and ID on each
    check. By keeping your child's account current,
    you help to keep our costs at a minimum and we do
    not have to increase lunch and breakfast prices.
  • Parents may come anytime and eat with their child
    by notifying the school nutrition manager ahead
    of time to insure enough food will be available.
  • Menus are available from each school on the
    website at http//www.gilmerschools.com/, on the
    school information line 706-276-7500, and in the
    Times Courier each week.

Medical Information
  • All 6th grade students in the state of Georgia
    are required to have a 2nd round of Varicella
    (chicken pox) prior to enrolling in school.
  • Any student taking medicine, either prescription
    or OTC, must fill out a form indicating what the
    student is taking.
  • All medications must be brought in or picked up
    by parent in original container

Lockers
  • Each CCMS student will be issued an individual
    locker.
  • Students will not be allowed to apply stickers,
    tape or any other adhesive to the inside or the
    outside of the lockers. Magnets on the inside are
    ok.
  • Locker locks may not be jammed or tampered with.
  • Students are not to share lockers.

  • Student lockers are subject to search by
    administration.
  • Lockers are not to be overstuffed.
  • Any misuse of lockers my result in loss of locker
    privileges and or disciplinary action.
  • Book bags will not be allowed in classrooms and
    must fit in lockers

Connections
  • Courses designed to connect academic skills to
    real life skills.
  • Band is the only year long Connection Class
  • Art, Family Consumer Science, Ag Science,
    Keyboarding, Intro to Technology, General Music,
    PE, and Health are all 9 week classes.
  • All students are required to have one 9-weeks of
    PE and one 9-weeks of Health.

  • GEAR Classes ( Guided Extended Academic
    Reinforcement) in Math and Literacy
  • Students are recommended for these classes based
    on CRCT scores and academic performance.
  • GEAR Classes are 9 weeks long. Some students will
    be assigned to more than one GEAR Class depending
    on need.

Connections Continued
  • A-B Schedule Clear Creek Middle shares
    connections teachers with Gilmer Middle School.
    Band is on B day first semester and on A day
    second semester.
  • Art, Family Consumer Science, and Band are on B
    days.
  • Ag Science, Intro to Tech, and Gen Music are on A
    days.
  • Keyboarding, GEAR, Health, and PE are offered
    every day.

Teams
  • Middle school students are scheduled in teams of
    teachers. Each 6th grade team is made up of 4
    teachers.
  • Parent meetings will include the entire team of
    teachers working with your student.
  • Off-team teachers are used to reduce class sizes
    in Math and Language Arts.
  • To best meet needs, some students are cross
    teamed for math and/or language arts.

Student Schedules
  • Each student will be scheduled for 80 min.
    segments in Math, ELA, Science, and Social
    Studies.
  • Literacy (Reading and Writing) will be taught in
    all content areas. Students may be reading novels
    in Social Studies and Science related to the
    curriculum. Content area evaluations will include
    written response each nine weeks.
  • 25 book per year standard All students will
    need to read 25 book equivalents this school
    year.

Agendas
  • Each CCMS student is issued an Agenda, at no
    charge, that includes the student/parent
    handbook. Replacement agendas cost 8.00. Agendas
    are property of the school and will be treated
    the same as textbooks.
  • Parents and students are to sign off that they
    have received, read and understand the rules,
    procedures, and consequences outlined in the
    handbook.
  • Internet use permission form is also included in
    the agenda.

Agenda Continued
  • Students are to have agendas with them at all
    times as they contain the following
  • Hall passes, Internet permission form, points
    page
  • Students are responsible for filling out agendas
    with assignments, homework and dates of upcoming
    projects, tests, and school activities.
  • Parents are to check agendas each night and sign
    them each Thursday.
  • Teachers will use agendas to communicate with
    parents via notes in the agenda.

Points Page
  • CCMS uses a progressive discipline plan. Students
    lose points for certain behaviors. These points
    are recorded on 4 points pages in the agenda.
    Each week students start off with a clean point
    record. Students who maintain required number of
    points will be allowed to participate in an
    extended break on Fridays. Students who have not
    earned the break due to loss of points will be
    supervised in team areas for academic enrichment
    or remediation.

  • Points may be lost for, but not limited to, the
    following
  • Disruptive behavior
  • Off Task behavior
  • Tardies
  • Not Following Directions (gum, cell phones,
    horseplay etc)
  • Not having materials for class
  • Failure to complete assignments
  • Certain behaviors will result in automatic office
    referrals.

Gilmer County School Code of Conduct
  • Each student in Gilmer County Schools will
    receive a copy of the Gilmer County School
    Student Code of Conduct.
  • This handbook will outline all of the rules,
    regulations and possible consequences of serious
    rule infractions.
  • Students and parents will sign that they have
    received a copy of this document and will be
    responsible for knowledge of its content.

Main Office Procedures
  • Attendance is taken in each class. Exam
    exemptions are based on period attendance.
  • All absences are Unexcused until notes are
    received. Notes are to be in office within 3 days
    of absence.
  • Bus Change information Parents must submit a
    note or call Donna Chastain to allow students to
    change after school transportation plans. Please
    get these to the school prior to 230 so we can
    ensure students get an official
    change-of-destination. Students will not be
    allowed to change buses without this form.

  • Any student needing medicine, either prescription

    transported by students on bus.

Main Office Procedures
  • Power School is Gilmer County Schools student
    information system. Parents are issued passwords
    to access their childs grades and attendance and
    email links to teachers. You are encouraged to
    use this to monitor your childs progress and to
    communicate with teachers.
  • CCMS teachers and teams maintain web pages that
    inform parents and students of information and
    events going on at the school and in the
    classrooms.
  • Alert Now is an automatic phone calling system
    used to notify parents of things such as report
    cards, pictures, school closings, and other
    activities.

Dress Code
  • Gilmer County has a student dress code that will
    be enforced. Students who do not comply will be
    disciplined and parents called to bring
    appropriate clothes. The biggest issue is holes
    in jeans. Any hole above the knee is a violation.
    See agenda for specific issues re dress codes,
    body piercing, hair colors.
  • CCMS teachers and administration use a common
    sense approach to this policy.

Cell Phones
  • Gilmer County Schools has a specific policy
    addressing cell phones.
  • In short, if the phone is out and or in use, it
    will be collected by the teacher and turned in to
    the main office.
  • The phone will be returned to the parent.
  • Repeated abuse of phone policy may result in ISS
    or other consequence.
  • Use of phone via texting, camera, or internet
    access involving inappropriate language, content
    or bullying will be referred to our school
    resource officer.
  • CCMS will not be responsible for any lost or
    stolen phone. This includes MP3 players or other
    electronic device.

Issues that could result in legal charges
  • Possession of any inappropriate material on cell
    phone, camera or other electronic device
  • Distribution of any threat towards other
    students, school or staff
  • Inappropriate comments on any social network even
    at home that interferes with the safe orderly
    operation of the school

Volunteer Opportunities
  • CCMS invites parents to be involved in the
    school. Our Parent Volunteer Coordinator and will
    be at a table in the lobby for parents to sign
    up.
  • Areas we need help in are
  • Fundraiser- Kick off for this is Aug 26
  • Box Tops for Education- Last year we collected
    over 800.
  • Ingles Tools for Schools- Last year we earned
    around 400 in product from this program.

Volunteer Opportunities
  • Sub Club- Parents willing to go through Gilmer
    County substitute training (3 hours) who are
    called on to volunteer from time to time to cover
    classrooms for teacher meetings or other events.
  • Book Fair Volunteer- Media Center hosts 2 of
    these each year.
  • Media Center Support via our book donation
    program
