6N-STAR Virginia Demonstration Project
- Objectives
- Introduce middle school students to the essence
of science, mathematics, and engineering by
providing hands-on problem-based experiences to
develop and sustain their interest in pursuing
careers in science, mathematics, and engineering.
- Develop the students interest in a career in
Naval Research. - Develop a process for mentoring and educational
intervention by Naval scientists and engineers. - Develop a comprehensive, affordable, sustainable,
and transferable steady state model of the

Description Multi-year, effort involving
middle schools, high schools, and community
colleges. The first phase of the Virginia
Demonstration Project (VDP) was limited to the
six middle schools of Stafford County. Science
and Engineering (SE) staff of NSWCDD served as
mentors and role models with the principal goal
of generating the interest and enthusiasm of
students in the middle schools in pursuing
careers in science, engineering, and mathematics.
