Types of Solar Eclipses
  • The moons shadow has two different parts, the
penumbra which is the faint outer region the
umbra which is the dark inner shadow.
  • Depending on which part of the shadow passes over
you, you will see one of the three types of solar
    eclipses
  • Total - The entire central portion of the sun is
    blocked out.
  • Partial - Only part of the sun's surface is
    blocked out.
  • Annular - Only a small, ring-like sliver of light
is seen from the sun's disc

Explanation of Solar Eclipse.
  • A solar eclipse is when the moon moves into a

How Often a Solar Eclipse Occurs and why.
  • The moon passes between the sun and the earth
    every 29 ½ days.
  • The moons orbit is tilted about 5 degrees from
the Earths, its shadow usually passes above or
    below our planet.
  • At least twice a year it lines up so that some
part of the moons shadow falls on the earth. No
    more than 5 times.
  • A total solar eclipse lasts for around 3 minutes.
