  most widely played gambling-house game in the U.S.

Bucking the Tiger

• To advertise game, operators would hang the
  likeness of a Tiger outside the casino.
• Playing Faro became known as Bucking the Tiger.

• Found in cattle trading towns and mining camps of
  the West during the 19th century.
• At the peak of the California Gold Rush, the town
  of Columbia boasted of having 134 Faro Banks.
