Title: Pearl milk tea
1Pearl milk tea
2 On a hot summer day , there is nothing
quite as refreshing as the taste of milk tea
combined with bite-sized tapioca balls to cool
you down. How did someone come up with this
brilliant idea? In the early 1980s, an employee
at Chun Shui Tang Teahouse in Taiching started
experimenting whit adding different kinds of
fruits, syrups, and yams to tea. Eventually, she
put tapioca balls in the bottom of the cup and
nicknamed it pearl milk tea. Around the same time
in Tainan, the owner of Hanlin Teahouse was
working on expanding his recipes and developed
what he also called pearl milk tea.
3- While many people in southern Taiwan
liked pearl milk tea, it didnt really catch on
everywhere until a Japanese television show
profiled the Chun Shui Tang Teahouse. Soon,
people of age were lining up for this strange
mixture of eating and drinking. Other teashops
copied Chuns idea and added small pieces of
candy or jelly to the tea. Recently, teashops
owners have even been adding colored tapioca
balls to milk tea to attract customers and be
different from other shops.
4Pearl milk tea is one of Taiwans most famous
treasures, and many people around the world drink
it whenever they can get their hands on a cup.
Bubble teashops have been opened in places with
big Asian populations like California, Toronto,
New York, and even some countries in Europe.
