7
Have A Vision!
  • We are part of a bigger organization.
  • The organization has a basic vision for everyone
    to follow.
  • Add your own distinctive flair!

Toastmasters International
  • Toastmasters International is the leading
movement devoted to making effective oral
    communication a worldwide reality.
  • Through its member clubs, Toastmasters
International helps men and women learn the arts
of speaking, listening, and thinking - vital
    skills that promote self-actualization, enhance
    leadership potential, foster human understanding,
and contribute to the betterment of mankind.
  • It is basic to this mission that Toastmasters
    International continually expand its worldwide
network of clubs, thereby offering ever-greater
numbers of people the opportunity to benefit from
    its programs.

9
Clubs
  • The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide
a mutually supportive and positive learning
environment in which every member has the
    opportunity to develop communication and
leadership skills, which in turn foster
    self-confidence and personal growth.

10
What is Your Vision?
  • Does it align?
  • Does it express a direction consistent with the
    needs of your members?
  • Does it state a clear direction for your
    executive team to follow?

11
For Example
  • My vision for MBS Toastmasters when I was
    president.
  • To strive for excellence in line with the vision
of Toastmasters International and the standard
club mission. In addition, to provide a fun and
positive environment where our members develop
and grow professionally and interact socially
with other people who have a similar life
    perspective.

12
Communicate It!
  • Talk to your executive
  • Talk to the members
  • Talk to anyone that will listen

13
Make It So!
  • Make a plan
  • Work the plan
  • Track and report your progress
  • Celebrate successes!

14
Make A Plan
  • Set goals in line with your vision.
  • Be SMART!
  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Actionable
  • Realistic
  • Timely

15
Work The Plan
  • Start doing the things your planning dictates.
  • Much of your plan will centre around activities
    of your members.
  • Ensure everyone keeps their eye on the ball.

16
Track and Report Progress
  • Ask your team to report back on progress on their
    respective responsibilities.
  • Distinguished Club Program gives you the feedback
on activities related to basic goals.
  • Consolidate that information with your own
    tracking.
  • Let the members know how things are going.
  • Listen to what the members are saying.

17
Celebrate Successes!
  • Make public mention of goals being achieved.
  • Ensure the club knows that progress is being
    made.
  • Give special recognition when warranted.

18
Summary
  • Establish your vision early.
  • Communicate it often.
  • Work with your executive to build a plan for
    success
  • Follow that plan
  • Reward achievements often
  • Have Fun!!!
