2
Fork Lift Accidents
  • United States OSHA estimates that there are
    680,400 accidents each year
  • Approximately 90,000 employees suffer some type
    of injury

3
UK Statistics for Fork truck Accidents
  • Estimated this year 8 UK Workers will be killed
    by Fork lift Trucks
  • More than 400 employees a year will suffer
    amputations, fracture or dislocations., or
    resuscitation an overnight hospital stay,
    following Fork Lift accidents

4
Fork Lift Accidents
  • Losses affect employees
  • Physical suffering
  • Mental suffering
  • Morale

5
Benefits of Fork Lifts
  • Allow efficient and rapid movement of materials
    in the factory
  • Reduce employee lifting injuries

6
Fork Lift Operating Environment
  • Pedestrians
  • Blind spots
  • Indoors/Outdoors
  • Narrow aisles / Ramps
  • Building columns / Close Quarters
  • Operate 24 hours per day
  • Tight Turning radius High Center of Gravity
  • Caution in loading trucks

7
Fork Lift and Pedestrians
  • Pedestrians contribute to accidents by being
    careless
  • Plant visitors are not familiar with proper
    procedures
  • Pedestrians do not understand truck stopping
    distances
  • Pedestrians try to beat a lift truck

8
Fork Lift Accidents
  • Losses affect employers
  • Injuries to employees
  • Damage to equipment
  • Lost productivity
  • Higher insurance costs
  • Morale
  • Bad publicity

9
Methods used to reduce Fork Lift Accidents
  • Training of drivers
  • Maintenance of equipment
  • Areas of operation
  • Additional Safety Systems

10
The PASS Safety System
  • Each pedestrian has a battery powered radio
  • Each Fork Truck has a radio receiver.
  • When the radio on the truck sees the PASS
signal, warning indicators light for both forward
    and reverse travel.
  • System is FCC/CE approved.

11
Safety Featureson the Handheld Units
  • The handheld radios are tested when they are
    removed from their charger.
  • The handheld radios flash every time they send
    a signal.

12
Safety Features on the Fork Truck
  • The remote station on the Fork Truck generates
    its own signals.
  • The receiver on the Fork Truck flashes an LED
when it sees its own truck signal.

13
Additional Features
  • PASS can also activate remote sky boxes. These
sky boxes can contain a flashing beacon that can
warn of an oncoming fork truck or can worn of
    oncoming pedestrians.
  • The sky box has a simple relay output that can be
utilised to control a multitude of alarms or
    control systems.

14
Top Quality Industrial Design
  • Units have been drop tested on concrete.
  • Long life Metal Hydride batteries can be
    recharged hundreds of times.
  • The PASS battery charger is designed to maximize
    battery life automatically.
  • When finally worn out, the batteries can be
changed in three minutes with only a small
    screwdriver.
  • Fork Truck radios are powered by the vehicles 12
    volt battery.
  • Sky Box ceiling lamps can be simple 110/240
    Volt plug-in design.
  • Units pass UL/CSA/CE standards.
