  • Completed at the beginning of the school year
  • It will last a week.
  • Culminating activity at the end of the semester.

Materials Needed
  • Colored construction paper
  • Markers
  • Camera
  • Picture of each student
  • Photoshop computer software

Lesson Objectives At the completion of this
activity the students will be able to
  • Identify each member of the class
  • Describe a Melting Pot
  • Describe a team
  • Use a digital camera.
  • Upload pictures into Photoshop.
  • Edit Photos.
  • Better understand different cultures.

Introduce the Learning Activity
  • This lesson will be started one day prior to the
    actual lesson.
  • The students have already been introduced to the
    idea of the Melting Pot.
  • I will do an example Melting Pot
  • Use homework assignment that describes family
    history.
  • The students have been taught how to use a
    digital camera and to upload photos and to edit
    them.

Provide Information
  • Students will break up into groups no larger than
    five students, determined by index cards.
  • They will discuss the information they have
    prepared for class.
  • They will compare their cultural backgrounds.
  • Use books and the internet to look up information
    about their heritage.

  • Share information with each other and take notes
    on their backgrounds.
  • Start working individually on their projects.
  • Students will each design a collage on a piece of
    construction paper.
  • They will use the pictures of themselves that we
    took in class.

  • Keep coming back to idea of Melting Pot.
  • Continue learning about cultures through reading,
    videos, and guest speakers.
  • Encourage students to talk to family members.
  • Immerse students in culture.

  • Display collages at the end of the week.
  • Have students walk around and view every students
    collage.
  • Share different concepts learned.
  • Pass/fail project.
  • Graded portion comes at end of semester with
    culminating activity.
