How it was originally played
  • OBJECTIVE
  • to hit discs with the heel of the hand from the
    edge of the table at a small lead target in the
    center called a jack.
  • RULES
  • If the jack was moved more than six inches it was
    replaced.  
  • Once all sixteen squails (the small wooden discs)
    had been played, they were scored 16 for the
    squail nearest to the target down to 1 for the
    squail furthest away. 
  • Knock an opponents squail away, as much as to
    end up near the target. --and still get rewarded
    points while their opponent lost points.

  • Todays version is known as Shuffleboard
  • Introduced around 1913 at Daytona Beach, Florida,
    as a game on land yet the modern form of
    Shuffleboard was defined at St. Petersburg,
    Florida in 1924
  • Played on a flat and slick surface
  • Now can be team sport now
  • Players use long-handled sticks called cues to
    try to push plastic discs into the scoring area
    at the other end of the table
  • A player may also try to knock the opponents
    disk out of the
  • scoring area or into a penalty space
  • Played mostly in USA , England
  • and Canada, but is gaining
  • popularity in many other countries
