1ICT Services the way forward?
- Secondary Headteachers Conference
- November 2007
2Objectives
- Reflect on the development of ICT in schools
- Identify possible strategies for ICT in the
future - Outline requirements for ICT within Building
Schools of the Future - Discuss future of managed services for ICT in
Hertfordshire?
3Where are we with ICT nationally?
- Secondary Schools
- Have on average 275 computers each...
- ...that's approximately 1 computer for every 3.6
pupils - 99 have interactive whiteboards
- 99 have a network in place
- 99 are connected to the Internet
- 99 have a broadband connection
- ICT is embedded in Strategy material
- 81 of teaching staff are reported to be very
confident or - confident in using ICT in their job.
- Spending on ICT has risen 6 fold since 1998
- Schools spend between 3 and 11 of the whole
school budget on ICT. - And in Hertfordshire
- All schools have their own maintained website
- All 10 Mbps (dedicated - exceeds national target)
4What are the concerns nationally?
- Management of ICT time consuming
- ICT infrastructure different in all schools
hard for transition and liaison - ICT provision is not equal in and between schools
(yet research shows it is tightly linked to
attainment, motivation, engagement etc) - Value for money?
- Teachers released to teach?
- Reliant upon individuals within schools
- Financial and interface risks managed by schools
- Schools liaising with many bodies when ICT fails
no single accountability
5The required elements of Building Schools for
the Future.
- Procure a managed ICT service (and a facilities
management service) which will be delivered
through the LEP - ((1450/pupil (upfront capital) 225/pupil
