The Skid Lifting Concept
Project Description
Path of Skid Through Paint Shop
Destructive nature of friction and wear has
caused severe damage to skids used in paint shop.
Worn skids must be replaced and system must
be modified to decrease effects of friction and
wear.

Skid Lifter Prototype Design
Mission Statement
To develop a concept and working design that will
significantly decrease the wear experienced by
the skids.
NO CHASSIS or INTERIOR
Durango vehicles are painted after initial
assembly
What is a skid?
Because the Durango has no wheels yet, the skids
are used to transport Durango through the
painting process

LOADED SKID
Occurrence of Wear
- E-Coat jams rollers on accumulation chains.
- Stationary skids experience friction from jammed
rollers - Excessive wear from friction occurs on skids
leads to failure
Shows roller and the groove it has worn into
bottom of skid. Height of groove shown by arrows.
Side of skid bottom has bent upward due to wear
and subsequent weakness of the skid.
Skid has jumped on top of cast iron rollers due
to the bottom bending upward.
