Subject

• The subject of a sentence is always a noun
• It is the noun that is the do-er or be-er of the
  action.
• When additional words are used to describe or
  name the subject, this is part of the complete
  subject.
• The simple subject is just the noun all by itself

Identify the simple subject

• The police officer helped at the accident.
• The nurse assisted the patient.
• The Giver gave Jonas only joyful memories at
  first.

Identify the complete subject

• The ugly dog broke down the fence and ran away.
• The strongest team won the championships.

Predicate

• The simple predicate is the verb that the subject
  does or is.
• When additional words help describe the predicate
  this is known as the complete predicate
• In simple sentences, the complete predicate
  consists of everything except the complete
  subject.
