Title: Abstract
1Abstract
- Student involvement in cross-national
decision-making processes hasdramatically
increased over the last years. In Europe, BEST
(Board ofEuropean Students of Technology) has
provided a solid and sound input to engineering
education policies at European level and
beyond.Building up on the experiences of BEST, a
new worldwide studentinitiative has been
starting to take shape, under the acronym
ofSPEED (Student Platform for Engineering
Education Development). The challenges and the
opportunities of such initiatives are
beinghandled by an increasingly large group of
internationally diverse students, a new breed of
global engineers who look beyond the borders of
their education and of their countries. Our
belief is that the involvement of this kindof
students, in global processes dealing with
engineering education ,can bring a significant
contribution to the field, as well as
anincreased connectivity of people and ideas
that ultimately drive ustowards global
understanding, social cohesion and reunion with
nature.
