• Physical Properties
• Characteristic of matter that can be observed
  without altering the chemical make-up of the
  matter.
• Chemical Properties
• Characteristic of matter that can only be
  observed through altering the chemical make-up of
  the matter.

Classification of Properties

• Intensive Properties
• Property which is independent of the quantity of
  the matter.
• Extensive Properties
• Property which is dependent on the quantity of
  the matter.

Introduction to Matter

• What is Matter?
• Anything that possess mass and takes up space
• The mass of an object at any given point of time
  or space is fixed
• Weight, on the other hand, changes as the effect
  of gravity on a body changes
• So what is space?
• The volume of an object refers to the amount of
  space occupied by that object
• Base Unit Liters (L)

Combination of Properties

• Mass and Volume are measured quantities,
  dependent upon the size of the object
• Density is a calculated value, dependent upon the
  proximity of the atoms/molecules within a sample
  of matter.
• E.g. More matter in less space results in a
  greater density of matter
