Introduction

• Group Charter The IPDR Protocols Working group
  will define the notation, syntax, encoding and
  transport used to convey usage information to
  Business Support Systems.

Group Structure

• Lead Jeff Meyer, HP jeff_meyer2_at_hp.com
• Editor Ken Sarno, Narus kensarno_at_narus.com
• About 15 other participants over past few months.

Group Work Model

• Weekly telecon.
• E-mail submissions
• Web based archive of key references, minutes and
  member contributions.
• Incorporate results into base NDM-U document (in
  particular Ch. 4)

2H 00 Group Accomplishments

• Move from DTD based model and loose coupling
  between Service Definitions and IPDRDoc contents
  to an XML Schema based approach and a formal XML
  based means to describe Service Definitions.
• Define a set of Transfer Protocol primitives and
  mapping to SOAP.
• Begin characterizing performance of full XML/SOAP
  based scheme.
• Refine the NDM-U 2.0 Transfer Protocol based on
  implementation experience.

NDM-U 2.5 Work

• Simplify communication model
• Grouping of IPDRDocuments
• Subscription Mechanism
• Sequence number and unique identifiers for
  documents clarified.
• Define framework to achieve maximum leverage of
  existing work to a binary protocol.

Future Work for Protocol WG

• Continue to incorporate refinements based on
  implementation experience.
• Develop binary mapping of both document
  structure and transfer protocol.
