Forensic Validation
The application of bar-coding to conservation
enforcement will require two forms of forensic
validation
  • 1. Marker Validation
  • All loci used in forensic analysis must be
    validated.
  • A validation study for COI is underway that
    includes different forms of fish.
  • 2. Sequence Validation
  • Individual bar-coded sequences will require extra
    validation for forensic application.
  • Validation studies include examining variation in
    PCR conditions and source DNA.
  • Forensic validation could be included in the
bar-coding protocol as an optional extra.
