What is a Blizzard?
  • A blizzard is a storm that has falling or blowing
    snow with winds above 30MPH

describe the picture above.
3
What classifies a Blizzard as a severe storm?
  • A blizzard can also be classified as severe if it
    has winds exceeding 40MPH

Damage People can loose power, water pipes can
freeze, and roads will become slippery and unsafe
to drive on. Also people can die and be trapped
in their homes.
A blizzard is classified as severe if it is
10degrees F or below
4
How Are Blizzards Produced?
When a polar air mass and a warm air mass meet
the cold air pushes the warm air up into the
atmosphere.
As the warm air mass stays in the atmosphere the
water vapor forms into snow clouds.

When the low temperatures mix with the winds and
the snow they create a blizzard!
