2
Introdution
  • Tornadoes are very fascinating things. People all
over the world have seen and heard about them.
Even Glenelm School named their school team the
    Tornadoes.

3
Spinning Winds
  • Tornadoes are very wild and dangerous storms.
They dont happen very often. Some people call
them twisters! Tornadoes are spinning storms with
strong winds. The winds spin around in a circle.

Funnels And meeting Air
  • Tornadoes are shaped like a funnel or a cloud.
Before tornadoes hit the ground they are called
funnel clouds. Tornadoes reach all the way from
the sky to the ground. They can be fat and skinny
but all tornadoes are powerful. Tornadoes form
when warm air meets cool, dry air high up in the
sky . If the two types of air push each other
hard enough it causes a thunderstorm.

5
Safety
  • If a tornado is heading your way you should go in
your basement and try to find a room with no
windows and duck as low to the ground as you can.
But if you dont have a basement you should hide
under your stairs leading to the upstairs. If you
dont have an upstairs try and find a small
corner to hide in. You should never stay in a car
when a tornado is coming. Instead of finding a
corner you could go outside and lay in a ditch or
go in a bathtub and lay down with a mattress over
the bathtub. If you follow these instructions you
    should be safe.

6
Extra Facts
  • Tornadoes start off by funnel clouds. They are
between 300-2000 feet tall and 90-600 feet wide.
A tornadoes speed can go up to 20 to 40 miles per
hour (30-70 km) per hour. Tornadoes only last a
couple of minutes the odd tornado can last a
    couple of hours.

Conclusion
  • Hopefully we will never experience a tornado. And
if we do we should be hoping it wont do as much
damage as Hurricane Katrina or the tsunami that
did tons of damage and killed lots of people.
  • Well lets keep our hopes up!!!
