2Main Idea
- Buds mom died and he had to go to a Home.
- The family he was living with, was not nice. They
were the Amoses. - He ran away to find his dad, but he needed help.
- He tried to get on a train. That didnt work.
- Bud found this band and looked at one of the band
members. - He thought it was his dad, but it was his
GRANDDAD.
3Theme
Bud learned that you should not run away. He
should stay put. The Amoses did a lot of bad
things to him. They put him in a dirty, old,
shed. Bud tried to jump onto a train when he new
it was dangerous. Thats when he ran away.
4Plot
- Bud ran away from the Amoses.
- He was trying to find his dad, but found his
Granddad. - He got a lot of help from his friends and other
people. - he met his Granddads band .
- Now Bud is apart of the family.
5Setting
The setting is mostly at the Amoses house in the
beginning. He runs away to the library. Then on
the streets. After that hes at Mr. Lewiss
house. Then his Granddads house. He thinks his
Granddad is his dad. Bud meets the band around
the middle to end of the story.
6Character Description
- Bud is the main Character of Bud, Not Buddy.
Bud is a African American little boy. He is a
little Shy. Bud is skinny. Bud was very brave to
run away from the Home. Bud is Herman E.
Calloways grandson. - Herman E. Calloway has a good part of the
story. He is also African American. Herman is
smart, but grouchy. He is Buds granddad. At the
end of the story, Herman gets nicer. - Lefty Lewis also has a good part in the story.
Lewis is African American. Is the most nicest
person I read about. Lewis, one day, found Bud
walking on the side of the road. He talked with
him for a little bit and brought him home to the
family.

- The Great Depression is Herman E. Calloways
band. - They are a black band and play the Blues.
- They all play an instrument and they have one
singer. - Herman is Buds granddad.
- Bud really likes Mr. Jimmy the best.
