CAS System Status

• D0mino upgrade in place in FCC1
• Will add
• 128 CPUs (currently 48 -gt 176)
• 64 GB Memory (currently 12 -gt 76)
• 21 TB Disk (currently 7 -gt 28)
• Will be reconfigured into single unit Tuesday,
  Feb 13th.
• Work will begin at 700AM, will continue
  throughout the day, possibly going past 500PM.
• Plan accordingly

Farm Systems

• 100 Dual processor nodes in place
• 50 nodes 2x500 MHz, 512MB memory, 50GB disk
• 50 nodes 2x750 MHz, 1.0GB memory, 60GB disk
• Will hold 10 nodes for fast turn around D0reco
  certification
• Will hold 10 nodes for farm testing
• If running at 20Hz, have 8sec/event processing
  time
• d0lxbld4 equivalent times
• Farms will be down Feb 8th for OS upgrade of I/O
  node

Database Server

• Production database on 6 processor SUN system
• 300 GB disk space for production database
• Should be adequate for 8 months full scale
  running
• 200 Tape library running Legato in place for
  backups
• Database systems will be down Feb 13th for
  Oracle upgrade.

Robotics and Tape Storage

• Robot operation has stabilized
• Have regular meetings with ADIC to examine any
  maintenance issues
• Maximum throughput to date 5TB in one day
• Enstore will be down Feb 13th
• Tape drive situation still unclear
• Have had inconsistent results with Mammoth-2
  drives
• Exabyte delivered set of golden drives for
  testing two weeks ago
• Have put 11TB through drives in testing
• One significant event every 2TB (requires
  intervention)
• One tape damaged (of 200)
• Will begin run with backup copy of data on disk
  (until June)
• Will maintain secondary copy of raw data on tape
• Exact configuration of drives yet to be
  determined (LTO?, 9940?)
• Goal to have final configuration by time physics
  data begins

Desktop Hardware

• CD is evaluating desktop hardware for
  compatibility with FRHL.
• If interest from user community is sufficient,
  lab would consider stocking standard desktops for
  purchase by users similar to way CERN does.
• Need feedback from users
• Would you buy desktop from stock if it was
  available and certified to run FRHL?
• How many might you be interested in within the
  next 6-12 months?
• If interested, send mail to diesburg, wyatt, or
  schellman.
• Downside not the absolutely latest and greatest
  hardware
• Overhead issues unknown

Security Issues

• Most systems fully Kerberized
• Farms - Fully Kerberized
• Database Server - Fully Kerberized
• D0mino - Fully Kerberized
• Servers - Almost, still some issues to resolve
  for off-site CVS access

Security Issues

• Like work related injuries, most security
  incidents are preventable.
• If you are managing your own desktop or those of
  others, DILIGENCE on your part is required.
• If you are running Win95/98 on your desktop,
  upgrade to NT
• Make sure you have anti-virus software installed
• No open shares on desktop or laptops
• Keep abreast of security warnings in mailing
  lists and D0news
• Dont just read them, TAKE ACTION!
• Dont open executable attachments unless you have
  a good idea what is in them, even if they come
  from a reputable source.
• Laptops need special care
• Be sure you have registered your laptop with
  Network group!

• Security incidents involving D0 people or
  machines for period Jan 1st to Feb 1st
• 26 e-mail viruses intercepted by mail server
• 16 network assaults on D0 subnet
• 8 Windows systems infected with viruses, 700
  files infected
• 1 Linux system hacked
• 2 Napster servers shutdown
• 3 FIREs
