2Game Procedure
- The game begins with one player (a bass), and the
rest of the players (the minnows). - The bass has a nerf ball.
- The object of the game is for the bass to eat
as many minnows as is reasonable. When eaten
minnows turn into bass in the game. - The bass may only take three steps. He/she then
tosses the ball at a minnow, - attempting to
hit the minnow (eat it).
3- When a minnow is tagged with the ball, the
minnow now becomes another bass. - Once the first bass is tagged, the bass may no
longer step or walk when he/she has the ball.
Bass may run or walk if they do not have the
ball. - Bass may (and should) work together. Example
One bass tosses the ball to another bass, who
tosses the ball at a minnow that is standing near
his/her area. - Play continues until there are only a few minnows
left. At this point the teacher may stop the
game, and ask the bass if they want to continue
eating the minnows. (Usually they do). If they
do, allow play to continue. If not, question
them about why they didnt eat all of the
minnows. - The game is over when all minnows are eaten, or
the bass decide to stop eating.
4Follow-Up
- What did you feel when you played the game. Is
this how a wild animal might feel? - What strategies did you use to avoid being
caught? Do animals use these strategies? - What strategies did you use to catch other
students? Do animals use these strategies? - If humans were introduced to this game, what
rules would you give them? What about disease? - Give an example of a food chain...a food web.
- What would happen if pollutants entered the food
chain?
