  • Same class and materials
  • Both carry honors credit
  • Accelerated/honors classes are not necessarily
more homework but they do require students to
think at a more sophisticated level

Learning objectives
  • understand the basic concepts, laws, and theories
    that apply to chemistry.
  • be able to use conceptual models in the study of
    chemistry.
  • understand the structure and characteristics of
    matter and energy.
  • be able to use mathematics as a tool to interpret
    experiments and concepts in chemistry.
  • be able to safely use laboratory instruments,
    equipment, and materials.
  • be able to observe phenomena and record data
then organize that data and draw valid
    conclusions.
  • be able to use reference materials to secure the
information necessary to understand a particular
    aspect of chemistry.
  • be able to effectively communicate information
    and experimental results.
  • recognize the importance of continued scientific
research as a tool to help solve chemistry
    related problems in society.
  • recognize career and vocational opportunities in
    chemistry related fields.

Information for Parents
  • The best way to contact me is via email
    atlscheffl_at_pps.k12.or.us
  • Class materials, assignments, and grades are all
    available from my website http//lincoln.pps.k12.o
    r.us/lscheffler/
  • You may monitor grades from this website as well.
Each student will have their assignment scores
listed after their code word. Please ask your
student for their code word or email me and I
will send it to you. Class policies,
expectations, and grading criteria are also on
    the web.
  • Students will have chemistry homework daily.
They should plan to spend 30-45 minutes per day
on chemistry. I will collect homework on
Tuesdays. At that time everything assigned the
    previous week will be due.
  • Students need to be in class everyday and to stay
current with their work. Failure to do so is the
primary reason why students have trouble in
    chemistry.
  • I am available during flex periods for help. I
am also arranging to set up some peer tutoring
during flex. I also have a tutor available on
    Wednesday mornings.

As a parent you can help--
  • Make sure they have an appropriate place to
    study.
  • Make sure that your student is in school and in
class every day unless they are really sick.
  • Take an interest in your students progress. Ask
them about class and how things are going and
encourage them as much as you can.
