Title: War On Terrorism'

1
War On Terrorism.
  • Is the U.S. Ready
  • To Fight Iraq?

March 11  Gen. Tommy Franks, the U.S. commander
who would direct a war against Iraq, was making
his way to his gulf region headquarters on
Tuesday, as tens of thousands of troops either
practiced or readied equipment for battle. The
practice included creating a fake front line
complete with a sand barrier built up in the
Kuwaiti desert.

U.S. Allies scramble for support
  •  Facing almost certain defeat, the United States
and its allies backed off calling for a U.N. vote
Tuesday on giving Iraqi President Saddam Hussein
an ultimatum to disarm or face a military
invasion. Instead, they scrambled to shore up
support in the Security Council by offering to
negotiate both the deadline and other changes to
the resolution. The maneuvering at the United
Nations came as a U.S. official reported that
Iraq had forced the suspension of U.S.
    surveillance flights.

The battle for peace
  • BAGHDAD, Iraq, March 11  As the world powers
battle for votes at the United Nations, Iraqis
dont believe the showdown on the Security
Council will ultimately have any impact on their
immediate future They feel a U.S.-led war is
inevitable. NBCs Ron Allen reports on the sense
of foreboding on the streets of Baghdad
