• John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892-1973) is an
  author. He was twice professor of Anglo-Saxon.
  He was a major scholar of the English language
  specializing in Old and Middle English.

Early Life

• His mother died of diabetes on October 15,
  1904. He lived in poverty. He knew Latin,
  Greek, , and Finnish (whatever those last two
  are).

Later Life

• He got a first-class college degree in June
  1915. He married Edith Bratt on March 22, 1916.
  One of his books, The Book of Lost Tales, was
  published after he died. He was a storyteller.
