General Guidelines for Posters
  • Introduction should be clear and concise and
    should quickly and logically rationalize the
    hypotheses/predictions/research questions
  • Any prior background data can be shown
    graphically or in text
  • Hypotheses/predictions/questions should stand out
    and be clearly stated in their own section
  • Method should NOT be an exhaustive description of
    what you did. Use timelines tables and
    pictures. Only minimal written text is needed.
  • Make it clear HOW youre answering the questions
    posed

  • There is no written results section in a poster.
    Data are shown in figures or pictures.
  • Statistically significant results are shown with
    s.
  • Discussion is both a summary and conclusion.
  • Go back to the questions/predictions/hypotheses.
  • If not results were not supported, briefly offer
    an explanation.

Poster Hints and Tips
  • Keep the text to a minimum. No one is going to
    stand for 20-30 minutes to READ your poster. If
    you happen to not be there, there should be
    enough info for the general gist/message to be
    conveyed but not details.
  • Everything should be legible from about a 4 foot
    distance away.

Poster Hints and Tips
  • Make the poster work for you! Watch for flow and
    organization. Color code and point it out to your
    audience so they can follow along more easily.
  • Use pictures and diagrams and time lines and
    figures as much as possible.
  • You should SELDOM if at all need full sentences.
