History
  • At present, nine countries or consortiathe
    United States, the Commonwealth of Independent
    States (CIS, formerly USSR), the European
    consortium, China, Japan, India, Israel, Brazil,
    and North Korea possess space launch systems,
    demonstrate space launch capability, or conduct
    space launch operations.

A Militaristic Start
  • North Korea has short-range variants of the Scud
    missile, with ranges up to 500-600 kilometers
    that are well tested.
  • These missiles can reach all of South Korea with
    nuclear, biological, or chemical warheads

War or Peace?
  • North Korea launched the first medium-range
    Taepo-Dong 1 ballistic missile from the
    northeastern part of North Korea shortly after
    noon on 31 August 1998.

  • On 04 September 1998 the Korean Central News
    Agency broadcast a report claiming the successful
    launch of the first North Korean artificial
    satellite, Kwangmyongsong-1.

  • Developed a problem 29 seconds after launch
  • Veered off its flight path, flying in a spiral
    path, and finally ending in the complete
    explosion, 42 seconds after launch
