All Behavior is Purposeful
  • All behavior is connected to what we really want,
in other words, our Quality World.

4
Quality World
  • Our Quality World is connected to our Basic
    Needs.
  • All Behavior is an attempt to get our Basic Needs
    met.

5
Basic Needs
  • All human beings have the same
  • Basic Needs.
  • These Basic Needs are
  • Love and Belonging
  • Fun
  • Freedom
  • Power
  • Survival

6
Activities
  • 4. All Basic Needs can be met through many
    different activities.

7
Total Behavior has four parts.
8
Thinking
  • Thoughts come before every action.
  • We can learn to recognize our thoughts.
  • We can learn to stop our thoughts
  • We can learn to direct our thoughts
  • We can control what we are thinking!

9
Doing
  • What we do is influenced by what we think.
  • All actions are purposeful, that is our actions
    are related to our wants.
  • Our wants are related to trying to meet our basic
    needs
  • Our basic needs are love/belonging, fun,
    freedom, power, and survival.
  • We can change what we are doing to change what we
    are thinking.

10
Emotions
  • We always have an emotion connected to whatever
    we are thinking or doing.
  • Emotions help us know if we are meeting our basic
    needs.
  • Emotions clue us in, to know if we are happy or
    not.
  • Some emotion words are happy, sad, calm, angry,
    etc.

11
Body Signals
  • We always have a body signal (physical sensation)
that accompanies what we are thinking.
  • We always have a body signal that accompanies
    what we are doing.
  • We always have a body signal that accompanies
    what emotion we are feeling.
  • Some body signals are tight muscles, upset
    stomach, headache, clenched fists, etc.

12
WHAT DO YOU DO
  • TO GET WHAT YOU NEED?

13
Think about Total Behavior as being your car of
life
14
  • Your basic needs are like your engine that
    drives the car.

15
  • Your steering wheel, or what you really really
want, determines the direction you take.

16
Your thinking and doing wheels change the
direction of where your car is going.
17
Your feeling and body signal wheels go wherever
your wants, thinking and doing wheels take them.
18
Get in the Drivers seat of your Car of Life.
19
Drive where you want to go!!!!
