Combining forces (Net Force )

• When several forces act on an object, they add.
• Adding forces means adding vectors.

Classifying Forces

• We will consider two classes of forces
• Contact force
• This is the most familiar kind.
• I push on the desk.
• The ground pushes on the chair
• Common examples
• Friction, Tension, Normal Force
• Long range forces---Action at a distance
• Gravity
• Electricity
