The Greater Paducah Sustainability (GPS) project
is a local, non-profit organization focused on
developing and implementing long term
environmentally focused sustainability programs
for the greater Paducah / McCracken County area
through partnerships between communities,
organizations, businesses and government .

    nonprofit corporation serving the Kentucky
    Counties of Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Fulton,
    Graves, Hickman, Marshall, and McCracken.JPFs
    Mission We are dedicated to the wise use of our
    natural and human resources. Our mission is to
    join with others to strengthen our community
    through measurable and sustainable means for the

Recycle Now!
  • is the GPS initiative focused on the development
    and implementation of a long term sustainable
    recycling program within the city of Paducah and
    McCracken County with the ultimate goal of
    leading the Purchase Areas commitment to the
    responsible and proper handling of all recyclable
    materials.

GPSs Short Term Goals
  • Establish a preliminary recycling program that
    can be used by both city and county residents.
  • Act as the conduit for encouraging recycling and
    educating area residents about the benefits of
    recycling.
  • Reduce LITTER throughout the area with positive
    reinforcement strategies developed in partnership
    with city government.

GPSs Long Term Goals
  • To assist in the development and realization of a
    sustainable, full service recycling program
    utilized by the City of Paducah and McCracken
    County residents
  • To assist Purchase Area Counties in establishing
    sustainable recycling programs.

  • Downtown cardboard - recycled
  • Paper from City buildings - recycled
  • Public Works Earth Day collections
  • Paper, plastic, cardboard, glass, metal and
    aluminum on April 14th

Action Plan
  • We request that a committee be formed with the
    goal of proposing two plans.
  • A realistic plan for establishing an interim
    recycling program as soon as possible to include
    recycling at City events like the Lowertown Art
    Music Festival, Downtown After Dinner, and BBQ
    on the River.
  • A long term plan to establish a sustainable full
    service recycling program.

parking lot.
  • Plastic 1 2 bottles with a neck (Except
    Motor Oil)
  • Aluminum - cans only
  • Mixed paper including cardboard, paste board,
    books, Junk mail, shredded paper
  • Newspaper dry and separate from the mixed paper
  • Printer Cartridges collected by the Girl Scouts
  • Cell Phones collected by the Girl Scouts
  • Eye Glasses collect by the Lions Club
  • Lead-Acid Batteries automotive, golf carts, lawn
    mower , boats, RVs
  • E Scrap - Monitors, Computers, Printers,
    Keyboards, VCR's, DVD, Small Peripherals, Phone
    equipment, Video/Audio Equipment, Network
    Equipment, Medical Equipment, Test Equipment -
    NO appliances or TVs
