5What are Learning Outcomes ?
- A learning outcome is what a person can do as a
result of a learning experience. - To do what?
- To perform a specific task at a given level of
competence under a certain situation.
6Outcomes-Based EducationScope of Application
- University Education should be interpreted as the
provision of an holistic learning experience for
students - Learning through the academic curriculum
(classroom activities) and co-curricular
curriculum (out-of-classroom activities) - Should be applied to both types of learning
activities
7Characteristics of an outcome-based approach
- A clear articulation of the intended learning
outcomes at the institution, program, and course
levels. - An alignment of pedagogy, assessment, and
intended learning outcomes. - An awareness of the importance of a holistic
learning experience (i.e., emphasizing meaningful
co-curricular activities). - A culture of self-reflection based on evidence
for improvement purposes.
