  • Currently administer 10 major award programs for
    high school, undergraduate, graduate,
    post-doctoral, and faculty study in the science
    and engineering arenas
  • 2,000 awards given annually, amounting to more
    than 60 million per year - over 14,000
    applications processed
  • Contracts from Department of Defense, National
    Science Foundation, National Aeronautics and
    Space Administration, U.S. Air Force, and Office

For High School Students The Office of Naval
Researchs (ONR) Science and Engineering
Apprenticeship Program (SEAP)
  • Program Synopsis
  • SEAP encourages high school students to pursue
    science and engineering careers by exposure to
    the Navys research and technology efforts.
    Students complete an eight week mentored summer
    internship at a Naval research laboratory, and
    create a final report.
  • Award Details
  • Provides internships and 1,500 program stipend
  • In 2007 1,061 applicants and 163 participants

Apprenticeship Program (SEAP)
  • Who is Eligible?
  • United States citizens or permanent residents
  • High school students who have completed at least
    the 9th grade and 16 years of age or older

    school transcript, two letters of recommendation
  • Program Cycle
  • Application opens mid-October and closes late
    January

Mathematics, and Research for Transformation
(SMART) Defense Scholarship for Service Program
  • Program Synopsis
  • SMART encourages undergraduate and graduate
    students to pursue science and engineering
    careers at Department of Defense (DoD)
    laboratories and agencies. A one-for-one support
    for employment agreement at a DoD laboratory or
    agency is required.
  • Award Details
  • In 2007 1,550 reviewed and 106 awarded
  • Starting stipends of 22,000 - 39,000 per year
    based on education level
  • Full tuition and fees paid, as well as health
    insurance, book, and internship allowances

Aeronautics Scholarship Program
  • Program Synopsis
  • NASAs Aeronautics Scholarship program encourages
    undergraduate and graduate students to pursue
    aeronautics careers at NASA laboratories and
    agencies. Tuition and stipend is paid with
    opportunities for internships at NASA laboratory
    or agency.
  • Award Details
  • Awarded to 20 undergraduates, 5 graduate
  • 15,000 educational support per year for 2 years
    for undergraduates, 35,000 per year for 3 years
    for graduates
  • 10,000 summer internships available

  • Program Synopsis
  • NREIP encourages undergraduate and graduate
    students to pursue science and engineering
    careers, allowing them to participate in 10-week
    long research projects that make them aware of
    the Navys research and technology efforts and
    improve future career prospects.

Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship
  • Program Synopsis
  • NDSEGs goal is to provide the U.S. with men and
    women with doctoral degrees in science and
    engineering who will lead state-of-the-art
    research projects in disciplines of interest to
    the DoD, through funding students pursuing
    graduate study at any U.S. institution.
  • Award Details
  • In 2007 about 2,000 applicants and 200 awards
    made
  • Three-year award full tuition and fees, 30,500
    yearly stipend, and 1,000 yearly health care
    allowance
  • No required post-award service obligation

  • NSF aims to ensure the vitality of the human
    resource base of science, technology,
    engineering, and mathematics in the U.S. The GRF
    supports graduate study leading to research-based
    masters or doctoral degrees relevant to the
    mission of the NSF.

  • Three year award 30,000 yearly stipend, 10,500

  • NSF aims to ensure the vitality of the human
    resource base of science, technology,
    engineering, and mathematics in the U.S. The
    EAPSI program supports 8-week graduate
    internships at foreign host institutions in
    Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand,
    Singapore and Taiwan.

  • Program Synopsis
  • The NRL post-doctoral fellowship program is
    designed to significantly increase the
    involvement of creative and highly trained
    scientists and engineers from academia and
    industry to scientific and technical areas of
    interest and relevance to the Navy. Recipients
    work at the NRL.

  • One year award renewable up to three years up to

  • The Air Force Summer Faculty Fellowship Program
    (SFFP) offers hands-on exposure to Air Force
    research challenges through eight to twelve week
    summer research residencies at participating Air
    Force Research Facilities for full-time science
    and engineering faculty at U.S. colleges and
    universities.
