• Clarifies what types of schools are defined as
  Approved nursing education program
• - to include non-profit and proprietary
• institutions that are accredited by the
• United States Department of Education

HB 475

• The legislation defines non-traditional nursing
  program as requiring that they school be apart of
  a institution of higher learning, the same school
  must be accredited, applicants must be either a
  military corpsman, lpn, or a paramedic.
• Additionally, students in the program must be
  required to pass a clinical assessment, as well
  as pass a nursing board recognized licensing
  assessment.

• Requires that if a student enters a
  non-traditional nursing as a LPN with more than 3
  years of experience, they are required to
  complete a 350 hour postgraduate preceptorship
• If the student enters as an LPN with less than
  three years, a military corpsman, or a paramedic
  they must complete a 700 hour preceptorship
  before being fully licensed as a RN.

• Lastly provides an exemption for students who
  were already in school on July 1, 2008 and
  complete the program by June 30, 2011 will not be
  required to undergo the preceptorships.
