2National Context Goal One of the National
Childrens Strategy Children will have a voice
in matters which affect them and their views will
be given due weight in accordance with their age
and maturity. Dáil na nÓg is the young
peoples parliament, held annually in Dublin,
which gives the children young people of
Ireland the opportunity to represent the views of
those under the age of 18 at a national level.
Comhairle na nÓg (Youth Council) is the local
forum organised by each County/City Development
Board for children young people to meet
discuss issues of relevance to them.

4- Local Context
- Established in 2002 by the Fingal Development
Board - 24 members represent the 6 electoral areas in
Fingal - Age group generally ranges from 10-17.
- The steering committee comprises representatives
from the following organisations - Fingal Development Board
- Fingal County Council Community Dept.
- Co. Dublin Vocational Education Committee
- Blakestown / Mountview Neighbourhood Youth
Project - Barnardos
- Blanchardstown Youth Services
- Baldoyle Swords Youth Services
5- MEETINGS
- Generally take place in relation to an upcoming
event e.g. Dáil na nÓg / meeting with Councillors
/ exchange visit, etc - The format of the meetings has tended to be led
by the adults in terms of the agenda items. - There are no elected officers therefore the
meeting has been chaired by a number of people,
including some of the young people. - The venue is generally County Hall, Swords as
this is a central location. - Meetings are usually held at night except for the
initial group bonding exercise, which is held
outdoors.
