EPICS-2
Introduction EPICS-2 is a JISC funded project
which aims to make a significant impact on the
development of support for personalised learning,
work-based learning, and life-long learning. It
builds on the considerable success and
deliverables of the First EPICS project around
technology, pedagogy and governance relating to
ePortfolios PDP.
Regional Forum The Regional forum was established
in 2004 to share good practice and help develop
capacity for PDP and ePortfolios in the North
East. Forum events are open to those outside the
project partners
Web 2.0 blogs and social networking A blog
with a difference! EPICS-2 includes large-scale
pilots of blogs which are unstructured yet are
designed to be linked directly to structured
programme outcomes or skill sets (evidencing)
integrated in an ePET portfolio.
Personalised Learning There are strong drivers
for greater personalisation of learning at all
levels of education in the UK. This is broad
scoping and can range from individually selected
learning pathways to personal learning
environments. EPICS-2 is addressing some of the
key ways that ePortfolios and other technologies
can help support these areas.
Mobile learning Supporting mobile learning with
asynchronous links to ePortfolios and blogs (in
partnership with CETL4HealthNE)
Personalized learning Pathways for Postgraduates
EPICS-2 is developing a regional solution to
better support individual training needs, with
links to ePortfolios.
ePortfolios to support learning pathways and

self-selected programmes
Life-long Learning EPICS-2 will build on our
earlier work using a range of international
standards to transfer portfolio data from
FE-to-HE (in partnership with the JISC COMPORT
project) and undergraduate to postgraduate in HE.
As well as supporting LLL, this cutting-edge work
with standards is vital for supporting
personalised learning (cross-platform cross
institutional).
Work-based Learning There is considerable
expertise in WBL within the North East. EPICS-2
is conducting a detailed review of technologies
to support WBL in the region. Also, many of the
large-scale pilots of ePortfolios include WBL
  • And more
  • Evaluation/research of national applicability
  • Identity management exemplars
  • Updated version of ePET portfolio freely
